4 Crucial Mistakes To Avoid When Building Your Network Marketing Business

Network marketing is an industry that allows the average person, with no formal education, to start their own business with very little money or risk.    Anyone can get involved, and with a little motivation can build a six figure income.
But many of us know that network marketing is a business that we all have struggled with.    Since we have never been taught business 101 in school growing up, we have a hard time with starting our own business.   I’m not going to lie, and tell you its going to be easy.   97% of the people who join quit when they first hit a brick wall.   And the other 3% find a way to break through that brick wall and figure out a way.     I talked the other day about how to build your network marketing business the correct way.  Lets talk about 4 mistakes you must avoid.
1.  People Join You, and Not Companies
This is one of the biggest mistakes I see with all new network marketing people.  They get involved, fall in love with the products.   Then go out and try and convince someone that their products are better.   Or they get involved because the company is debt free, or the owner is this big time guru.   Then go out and tell others that their company is the best.
One of my mentors Mike Dillard said it best “People don’t by the drill, they want the hole that the drill will produce”.   Same thing with network marketing.   People join because they want the lifestyle the opportunity will give them.   They join You, because you are living the lifestyle they want.   If you are happy, excited, living the dream you always wanted.   People want the same thing.    Time and Money are really only the 2 things people care about.   Show people how your opportunity will eliminate their time and money problems.
2.  Paying the Price Should Not Be Justified
If you are selling a product that saves someone money like a $500 vacation for $300.  People can see the savings and its a very simple sale.  But with network marketing their may be ways to get your products for cheaper.  Someone might say, “why would I buy your products when I can get them cheaper at the local store”?    Your products are just the tool to get people to there dreams.
Instead of trying to convince people how your products are superior and they should pay the higher price.  Ask people how much your opportunity is worth to them.     Help them see the value in starting their own business, having the free time to do what they want, and unlimited profit potential.      When I talk with people I ask them if they want to work with me.  And then I tell them they have to sign-up and pay the price.     If they don’t see the value in working with me then they will continue to have the same struggles in life.
3.  Leave Your Downline Alone.
Just like a new baby.  Eventually the baby needs to stop being carried around and start to walk on its own.   Your downline needs the get up and start to make things happen for themselves.
I’m not saying to ignore your downline.  But your time is valuable and babysitting will never get your business off and running.    Spend a few hours getting your new distributor up and running and then set them free.      Work only with the very small percentage of leaders who are rockstars and want to build their business fast.  All the other members of your downline can be directed to training videos you either do live, or setup in advance.
4.  Market Offline
Starting your network business and only trying to build it on the Internet is a huge mistake.   Setting up lead capture pages, autoresponders, and blogs will take time.  And the traffic will not be coming in for a few months.
Get out and start talking with people.    I tell my new distributors to stay away from family and friends.  Go find the people who are business owners, or self employed.   People like real estate agents, mortgage broker, and insurance agents.  This group of people understand how to work for commissions and will be a more receptive and eager to succeed.
